Q: When was it released?

Day One 2.0 was launched for iOS and Mac on Thursday, February 4, 2016. For more information about subsequent updates, see our Mac and iOS release notes.

Q: What does it cost and where can I purchase it?

Day One is a free app to download on iOS and Mac as standalone apps with Basic features. Premium features are available for an in-app subscription. It is $34.99 USD/year or $3.99 USD/month. 

Q: Are you giving a discount to users that purchased Day One 2.0 before subscription?

Yes. Existing Day One 2.0 users can subscribe for $24.99 USD/year. 

Q: Why are you charging for this update?

Day One 2.0 is the result of over two years of design and development. Paying for Day One 2.0 means that we’ll be able to continue to maintain and develop the Day One apps.

Q: Do I need to create a Day One account in order to sync?

Yes. If you want to sync your data to other devices, you’ll need to create an account which will enable Day One Sync. Learn More: Day One Sync and Day One Sync FAQ.

Q: Why can’t I use Dropbox and iCloud for syncing?

A requirement for 2.0's new features was that we create our own syncing service—Day One Sync. Encryption and other features are dependent upon Day One's server infrastructure.

Beyond providing these benefits, Dropbox and iCloud were never 100% successful for all of our users. We had numerous cases of data loss and duplication. This was not acceptable to us, so we've built Day One Sync from the ground up to be tailored to Day One journal data.

It's taken considerable effort and investment, but we believe creating Day One Sync is the right thing to do for the stability and growth of the Day One platform.

Q: Does Day One back up to iCloud?

Q: How do I import my Day One Classic (v1) journal data into Day One 2.0?

Day One 2.0 makes it simple to import your Day One Classic data. For more information, see Importing Day One Classic Data on our support website.

Q: Is the Publish service no longer supported?

Publish, a service for posting selected entries to a webpage, is not available in the initial release of Day One 2.0. We will release it in a future update.

Q: What’s next from the Day One team?

Lots... and it makes us very happy. Here’s a sampling of our priorities:

  • Publish—Similar to what exists in Day One Classic, we will provide the ability to post selected entries to Day One-hosted webpages.
  • Localization—We will translate the Day One apps into more international languages.
  • Android and Web Clients—We will commence work on these platforms.
